You'll play an important role in helping teachers deliver engaging practical lessons while ensuring students have access to safe, well-prepared equipment, materials and resources.

About the role

You'll work closely with teaching staff to prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons and support students in using specialist equipment safely and confidently.

You'll also help manage our workshop and resources, carry out routine equipment checks and maintenance, and support the department in maintaining high health and safety standards.

If you enjoy practical work and want to use your skills in an environment where you can make a difference to young people every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare materials, tools, machinery and equipment for practical DT lessons
  • Support teachers and students during practical activities, promoting the safe use of specialist equipment
  • Carry out routine checks, cleaning, maintenance and basic repairs of tools and machinery
  • Maintain an organised, safe and well-stocked workshop and preparation area
  • Manage resources and stock and support ordering where required
  • Help maintain high standards of health and safety across the DT department

We are looking for someone who

You'll be practical, organised and able to work confidently with a range of tools, machinery and materials. You'll have relevant experience within a Design & Technology, workshop, engineering or similar technical environment and understand the importance of safe working practices.

You'll also be a good communicator who can collaborate with teachers and appropriately provide support during practical activities. You'll be able to organise and prioritise your workload, use your initiative and remain flexible when priorities change.

GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, are essential. A Level 3 qualification such as an A level, BTEC or NVQ in Design & Technology, Engineering, Product Design or a related technical discipline would be desirable, as would previous experience working within a school.
